Here we have selected electronic and
printed bibliographies and indexes which may be useful for research on
contemporary Indonesia.
Included are general, country or subject
specific bibliographies. All are available in the Monash University
Library.
This guide is divided into two parts: Electronic
Bibliographies and Indexes, and Printed Bibliographies and
Indexes.
You can find other relevant indexes and
bibliographies by searching the library catalogue using these keywords, "Indonesia
bibliography" and by using other words in place of
"Indonesia", such as "Java" or
"Indonesian".

An essential tool for keeping in touch with academic research on Asia.
It also provides an excellent means of identifying material published in

Monitoring service. Summary of world broadcasts.

Daily and weekly.
Invaluable resource for the researcher. The BBC set up its Monitoring
Service in 1939 to provide information from open-band foreign
broadcasts. The summaries, produced daily and weekly, cover a selection
of Asian home and foreign radio stations' broadcasts. Extracts from
press articles were included, as well as official war communiques,
speeches, propaganda trends, transcripts. Arrangements of the summaries
and broadcasts differed over the years. Asian material can be found
under section headings East (Far East), and for later years, Far
East. Larger Australian libraries hold sets of the Summary of World
Broadcasts. on microfiche and microfilm or paper.

A similar service to the BBC World Summary Broadcasts. (see above), is
also provided by the United States. Each day's broadcasts of news are
indexed by country originating the broadcast but not by the subject of
the broadcast. At the end of 1996 FBIS will no longer be published in
hard copy.

very useful reference guide.

This highly recommended index is essential for the study of Indonesia.
It contains abstracts of selected periodical articles, chapters in
general books, bibliographies, and reports on Indonesia, in the field of
social sciences and humanities. The emphasis has been to index cover to
cover the most important periodicals in the field of Indonesian studies
in Western European languages and Indonesian. Chapters on Indonesia from
books which cover the whole of Southeast Asia are included, as are
collective volumes such as the result of workshops. The name and subject
index is particularly user-friendly, emphasis being placed on
accessibility through natural language descriptors/keywords.

This excellent bibliography is designed for the English speaker. It has
a very good introduction giving useful background information on
Indonesia. There are chapters on almost every topic, including cuisine!
The annotations are full and offer a considerable amount of information
about each work. This is an excellent guide for all levels of research.

are translated into English and arranged by broad subject headings. A
chronology of events allows access by date. An annual index lists,

Newspapers are listed by city and by title. Today this publication is
mainly used as a verification tool for researchers. It lists holdings in
major Indonesian collections in Indonesia, the U.S. and Europe. For

the Electronic Databases link via the Monash Voyager Catalogue
homepage. NOTE: One widely available source for a listing of
currently published Asian newspapers is: Far East and Australasia.
Included in the section for each country is a list of capital city and

in two volumes. It is a comprehensive survey of modern Indonesian
