This publication aims to provide a selective listing of scholarly publications in Western languages. It covers the fields of humanities and social sciences and is arranged by both geographic area and subject. It includes periodical articles, monographs, articles within festschriften, symposia and conference proceedings.

This is a source of valuable information for scholars and others in the Western world interested in the study and understanding of Korea and Northeast Asia. Between 1977 and 1968, approximately 2500 dissertations relating some way to these two countries were accepted by academic institutions in Australia, Europe and North America. Japan and Korea, 1969-1979 is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, descriptively annotated, classified listing of 3508 numbered dissertation entries for work in the humanities, the social sciences, medicine, and the natural sciences. There are numerous theses in such fields as anthropology and sociology, economics, and education as well as in history, literature, politics and government, and religion.
